If the packaging is unclear, cook the bacon before eating it. “Smoked” doesn’t necessarily mean fully cooked or ready to eat; bacon can be cured and smoked and still need cooking. [USDA guidance](https://www.fsis.usda.gov/guidelines/2021-0002)

Some bacon is sold ready to eat. You can eat it without further cooking if the label or manufacturer confirms this, but smoking and curing alone don’t tell you that.

Grilling isn’t required; frying or baking works too. Follow the cooking instructions on your package. If there aren’t any, cook it or check with the manufacturer before eating it straight from the packet.
