**Scoop up the chunks, blot the liquid, then wash the floor.** A dustpan and a flexible plastic scraper work well for salsa, stew, and soggy cereal.

1. **Collect the bulk.** Hold the dustpan flat against the floor and gently push the food into it with the scraper. Two pieces of stiff cardboard also work: use one as a scoop and the other as a pusher. Empty everything into the trash.
2. **Absorb the liquid.** Lay paper towels or an old towel over what remains, press down, and lift. Work from the edges toward the center to contain the spill.
3. **Clean the residue.** Wipe with a damp cloth and a cleaner suitable for your flooring, then dry the area. Avoid flooding seams in wood or laminate.

**Under the fridge**, a thin cloth wrapped securely around a flat ruler can reach a shallow spill. Draw it toward you gently so you bring the food out. For a large spill farther underneath, pull the fridge forward according to its manual, watching the power cord and any water line. Unplug it before cleaning underneath; [GE’s cleaning guidance](https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16266) recommends this precaution.

If the container broke, collect the glass before handling the food, and use tools and gloves for the sharp pieces.
