**You can use your Graco AFFIX without LATCH; you don’t need to buy another booster solely because the babysitter’s car lacks it.** Graco’s [AFFIX manual, page 8](https://download.gracobaby.com/ProductInstructionManuals/PD236799A.pdf) explicitly allows use without the vehicle anchors.

In this booster, the **vehicle’s lap-and-shoulder belt restrains your child**. The LATCH connectors secure the booster itself to the vehicle seat. Using the AFFIX with its connectors unused is an approved configuration, much like using a booster that has no connectors. That doesn’t establish identical crash performance between different booster models, but unused LATCH connectors alone are no reason to replace it. Check these points in the babysitter’s car:

- **Use a lap-and-shoulder belt.** A lap-only belt is unsafe with this booster.
- **Check belt fit and routing:** the lap belt should sit low and snug across the hips/upper thighs, and the shoulder belt across the shoulder and chest. Follow your seat’s manual for routing and its shoulder-belt positioning clip.
- **Check head support:** a backless booster requires a vehicle seatback or head restraint that adequately supports your child’s head.
- **Buckle the empty booster in, or remove it.** With LATCH unused, it needs securing even when your child isn’t riding.

These requirements come from [Graco’s instructions](https://download.gracobaby.com/ProductInstructionManuals/PD236799A.pdf) and [NHTSA’s booster guidance](https://www.nhtsa.gov/car-seats-and-booster-seats/how-install-booster-seat). Show the babysitter the correct belt routing and check the fit with your child seated before the first trip.
