**You may be asked to show that you intend to leave, but a booked ticket out of the UK is not a specific requirement.** The visitor rules require you to demonstrate that you’ll leave at the end of your visit and can afford your onward journey. Your Amsterdam–US booking is useful supporting evidence. It isn’t a guarantee by itself: if questioned at passport control, explain that you’ll leave the UK after finals, travel around Europe, and then fly home from Amsterdam. Carry:

- Your Amsterdam–US flight confirmation.
- Your university acceptance letter showing the semester dates.
- Evidence of funds for your stay and onward travel.
- Any evidence that you’ll resume your studies in the US.

These documents help establish the purpose and temporary nature of your stay. [UK supporting-document guidance](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/visitor-visa-guide-to-supporting-documents/guide-to-supporting-documents-visiting-the-uk)

**One correction to your visa assumption:** under current rules, Dutch citizens can generally study as visitors for up to six months at an accredited institution. Longer university study generally requires a Student visa. EU citizenship alone does not exempt you from UK study requirements. For a semester visit using your Dutch passport, you’ll also generally need an **ETA before travel**, unless you have an exemption such as existing UK immigration permission. Apply using the passport you’ll travel with. [UK ETA guidance](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta)
